Summary
Coast defence battery at the Centre Bastion built in the 1890s replacing gun emplacements for two 7" guns. The new guns were probably 12pdr quick firing guns and their emplacements completely destroyed the earlier gun sites. These guns were in turn replaced in 1913 by the nearby tower guns (TQ 97 NW 129) , although these emplacements remained. Only one emplacement remains now, the other was destroyed in the 1970's. Superimposed between the two guns lies a concrete observation post with a narrow slit in its northern side.
