Summary

A chalk pit was formerly located to the north of Chislet, in Church Lane. It is marked on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map of c.1861, but on the 2nd edition of c.1896 it is depicted as 'Old Chalk Pit'. The boundary is still visible on the later 3rd and 4th edition maps, c.1906-1940.

'Old chalk Pit' present on 1st edition map 1872 sheet 36 and 2nd edition 1898 6" OS map. Boundary of pit is unclear in SWcorner, but definite in NE, on 3rd edition and further maps. (1)
