The original Moat’s Bulwark continued to be developed and used until the end of the Napoleonic wars with its form greatly altered and its effectiveness dramatically increased by the addition of a large semi-circular battery in the early 18th century. The most identifiable feature of the bulwark today is the brick revetted upper platform and the zig-zag brick and stone steps leading down to the 18th-cent. semi-circular gun battery. At the foot of these steps survive the remains of what may have been a small powder magazine.Summarised from sources (1-2)
