During an archaeological watching brief on cable trenching and evelauation trenching undertaken at close to Admiralty Lookout at Dover Castle in 2005-2006 by Canterbury Archaeological Trust a number of features relating to the former site of a gun emplacement were uncovered.

The features uncovered included a concrete platform (1.22m below the ground level) forming the base of a gun emplacement. To the north of this and retaining the platform was a low east west aligned concrete rendered brick wall. A further wall large sloping brick wall was located to the west, this possibly represents the the outer wall of the bettery or the butress for the outer wall. Admiralty lookout started life as Hospital Battery, three gun emplacements mounted en barbette were constructed between 1871 and 1875 to protect the port. It is likley that the features uncovered relate to this original period of construction. - summarised from the report. (1)
