During an archaeological watching brief on cable trenching and evelauation trenching undertaken at close to Admiralty Lookout at Dover Castle in 2005-2006 by Canterbury Archaeological Trust a number of features, including wall and surfaces, were uncovered. These relate to the former site of the Garrison Hospital which was constructed at the Castle in the mid C19th and demolished in the 1960's.

The exterior southern wall of the hospital was identified in 2 of the 6 trenches that were excavated, this was in a mix of yellow and orange stock bricks and survived to a maximum height of five courses, approximately 0.66m below the ground level. A garden wall wasl also located in 2 of the trenches, surviving to a height of seven courses with a concrete slab at its top. The position of this wall corresponds with a garden wall shown on a 1927 plan of the hospital and surrounding grounds. In addition to these walls a series of more complex walls were exposed relating to a possible light well for a basement beneath the main hospital building. A number of metal bars wer located over this light well. A brick floor was located beneath this light well, presumably this is the floor of the basement. - summarised from report (1)
