Summary

The remains of a moat at Badsell Manor Farm. The first documentary reference to this manor was in 1259. The Manor house was rebuilt in the late 16th century and 17th century. The house is grade II listed, including the barn, oasthouse and boundary wall. The manor is now used as a farmhouse and the three sided surrounding moat remains in good condition.

[TQ 65774474] Moat [GT] (1) Capel: Badsell. Three sides of the moat remain in good condition. (2) Badsell is the principal manor in Tudeley. Before the middle of the C15th it was owned and occupied by a family of that name. It passed by marriage to the Fane family and after that family became possessed of the castle and manor of Mereworth, the mansion at Badsell has been used only as a farm-house. (3) Badsell Manor Farm. A moat upon three sides of the farmhouse, in good condition. A 25" survey has been made. (4) No change: survey of 8.3.61 checked and correct. (5) 1st doc ref. 1259. Manor house rebuilt in LC16 and 17, grade II listed, including barn, oasthouse and boundary wall. (6)
