Ex: CONSORZIO CARBONI. Carrying a cargo of 4,000 tons, stranded on the west edge of the S Goodwin at 7.30pm on a Sunday. The Deal lifeboat CHARLES DIBDIN, anchored and veered down on the wreck, assisted by the searchlight of the guardship, and took off all the crew from rope ladders hanging over the side. The lifeboat then cut its cable and returned to shore at 3am. The Italian government awarded silver medals to the lifeboat crew some years later.
