Summary
A little to the south-east West Flank Casemates there was a two-cell building built of brick with a slate roof. Exactly when this building was constructed is unknown but it was certainly in existence by 1871 when it was in use as a Armoury. On a slightly later plan (1880’s) it is labelled as a Laboratory, a type of building in which shells were filled with explosive. In 1911 it was in use as the Armament Offices and in 1929 as the Medical Inspection Building, incorporating a Waiting Room at the eastern end. This building has since been demolished.
