Summary

Lower Palaeolithic implements found in Gaskin's Pit, also know as Vauxhall pit or Vauxhall Brick Works. Handaxes, flakes, retouched flakes, levallois flakes and points found probably from the base of Brickearth.

Vauxhall Brick Works, on the south side of the Canterbury-Sturry road and east of the barracks, has yielded palaeolithic implements including Acheulian ovates and Mousterian points. Various pits were open at different times, and the precise provenance of any finds is unknown. (1-4)
